Shred is kind of metal. Learn Steve Morse's Tumeni Notes and then you'll see why sweep picking is a nice skill to have when you don't want to alternate pick that entire song like he does.

Try Get out of my Yard, Scarified or Technical Difficulties by Paul Gilbert.
Once you've tried those, move onto Al Di Meola - Midnight Tango (I know it's not Metal, but Di Meola pretty much defined the "Shred" sound)

By Mallcore kids or the metal community? My bet is mallcore kids. Weird enough that I listen to at lease 4"core" bands. I don't consider Metalcore or Deathcore metal... I consider them more of a sub genre of Hardcore.

Listen to real hardcore. Listen to this band(ya i dont like them either). See how harcdore they are. Not very, more metal. Go to the metal section in bands forum. This band is there. Oh and sorry for crappy grammer

Why do people find it their obligation to question ****ing genre's on everything.

Oh and I would say Tornado Of Souls - Megadeth.
I think it might have a few sweeps though...

B# and E# exist. IN THEORY.
Prove me otherwise on your guitar.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Man, you're funny Metallica has horribly easy solos.

To OP, try Dave Mustaine's solo in Holy Wars. Marty's have Sweeps in them. Daves are at like, 184bpm.

I tried it out in store.

Great neck, nice n light, good tuning stability. Overall a good guitar. I didn't but it cause I generally only buy guitars over a grand now.

If you have a double neck and a spare set of strings :p

No it is strict alternate pretty much.

Technical difficulties is a fun song, I wish I could play it I also wish people would stop being elitists.

The fact that the initial post said no sweeps, and Gilbert is an advanced sweeper.

Hmm, I don't think there's any sweeping in The Guillotine by Escape The Fate, and the solo is wicked in that song. Try it out.
It's in Drop C though.

Um, no.
He dislikes sweeping, he's an advanced alternate picker.
You're probably getting string-skipping mixed up with sweeping
