actives are also very strict meta pickups, dont expect good blues with an EMG.
See if you can find my thread about them, you'll learn a ton about them.

Active pickups usually deliver more output, for getting more gain, and are noiseless. However many claim they sound sterile, lack in character, and are compressed.
It's about preferences, you mainly have 2 pickups to consider Blackouts, or the EMGs.
My opinion is to try both, although, I prefer sound of EMGs at 18v mod over blackouts.
But, as I said, its down to preferences.

They don't have more ouput. They have internal pre-amps, which makes people think they have more output.

I tried it out in store.

Great neck, nice n light, good tuning stability. Overall a good guitar. I didn't but it cause I generally only buy guitars over a grand now.

I have to agree. With proper volume/tone settings and EQing you can get a lot of different tones from actives, and lets not talk about the EMGTW series that has the coil splitting option.

Well all the actives I've heard have been lifeless and lacking personality.

In my opinion, EMG's are like studio monitors. They are accurate and bring every nuance of your playing across.

Passives are like really nice hifi speakers. Make everything you play sounds great, but not exactly right.

To a certain extent anyway..

I heard that on the active setting those pups sound really similar to the EMG 81/85 set and that the passive setting gets good warm and clean tones. Not sure,I havent had the chance to play one yet.

I think its kinda odd that the other model in that series has an original FR

Dual active/passive pups,an original FR,and a quilt maple top for 400?

Uhm deal maybe?
