What are your top five bassists that you were inspired or just simply admired?

5. Jaco Pastorious (Weather Report)
Probably the most innovative and the master of the fretless.

4. Sting (The Police)
His bass play was simple but it was extremely powerful and andy summers' guitar playing meant nothing without his bass.

3. Jack Bruce (Cream)
Just ****ing earth-shattering.

2. John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin)
Listen to Heartbreaker's live version with bass booster, and you'll know what I'm talking about.

3. John Entwistle (The Who)
Probably no band in the world but the Who had the bassist standout in the music more than the who because he was just a monster.

Some one ought to say Paul McCartney or Flea

and then there's free jazz, which isn't even for musicians.

As my old guitar teacher once said: Metal really comes from classical music. The only difference is pinch harmonics, double bass, and lyrics about killing goats.

Gene Simmons for his stage presence, not his not-bad bass skills.

And how come no one mentioned Suzy Quatro?
#29
Flea (RHCP, the Mars Volta)
Matt Freeman (Operation Ivy/Rancid)
Manny Carrero (Saves the Day)
Matt Wong (ex. Reel Big Fish)

Trujillo is a much better all-round bassist and musician than Burton was.
