My friend, who is an amazing bass player recently played a riff for me that was entirely natural harmonics on the bass. He told me what song it was, so I know it is a cover and not an origional. However I forgot what it was. Does anyone know of any bass riffs that are all natural harmonics? Its was a fairly high tempo song. I'm also sorry if this is in the wrong forum, and if it is, could a mod move it to the proper forum?

well theres quite a few songs that utilize natural harmonics.

heres a few:
Amazing Grace by tons of people
Portrait of Tracy by Jaco Pastorius
Shadow of a Man by Oysterhead has a bassline with some harmonics in it

Neither is all harmonics, but:
Portrait of Tracy - Jaco Pastorius
Amazing Grace - Victor Wooten

BeastEdit: I don't mean to credit Victor Wooten with the song Amazing Grace. There are many other people who have done bass versions. It is just that his arrangement is the one most often covered.
I got in everyone's hostile little face. Yes, these are bruises from fighting. Yes, I'm comfortable with that. I am enlightened.

the intro to "As I Am" by Dream Theater is all natural harmonics.... but it's on a 6-string bass, idk if you can play it without the high B string

The awakening - primus

There is only one part of the verse with natural harmonics in it.
And it isn't Primus' song, it's the Reddings.

Les has covered it heaps though, to the point where everyone thinks it was him.

True. One of the funniest rants I ever saw on Talkbass was when someone went off on a tirade on how Les stole...I say Stole!...that song from the Reddings and failed to give them credit.

PoT is the most obvious choice of course. One of these days I will sit down and learn to play it.

Dude if i were you i'd look more at bands like Dragonforce, Dragonland, Dream Theatre and Power Quest, most of their songs are either in E major, A major, C major or D majhor
