I'm a guitarist that wants a bass, mostly to fool around with but I don't want it to be bad. I can spend around $400. I play almost all types of rock, Pink Floyd, Maiden, Metallica, Beatles, everything. You can check out my taste here: www.last.fm/user/gudinge.

I'm not really sure what to get, I think I'm going to get a Squier with a small starter amp but I'm not sure. And if I'm getting a Squier I'm not sure if I'm going to pick a Jazz or a P-Bass. I've heard that the Jazzes are more versatile, easier to play and I like the look of it.

I'm open for all suggestions but we don't have that much range of basses where I live.

Check out the FAQ, it has information on starter basses

maybe she passed out in the bathroom. You should have found her then had one of your friends yell "FINISH HER!" like from mortal combat and then jizz on her

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.

^Just replace the Ibanez with a Vintage Modified Squier Jazz and you'll be set.

VM Jazz, Orange Crush 20b....mmmm, tasty.

The FAQ has a bunch of other decent basses and amps to check out as well.

They don't have the Acoustic AB50 here where I live, can you recommend any other good starter amp? The Orange seemed a bit expensive since I need to buy a bass too.

Fenders aren't bad starter amps...but it is a good idea to upgrade soon...

My fender rumble 15 hasn't steered me wrong in my 3 years of owning it. It's a good little cheap practice amp.

Ashdown is usually taking over the thread by now. and Giaco always brings up his favorite Laneys.

look at those. along with the Fender, those Rumbles are pretty reliable amps.

Thank you all, I'll check them out.

But which do you think would fit me better, a Jazz bass or a Precision Bass? Check above for music taste. Not sure if it will be a Squier though.

I would suggest a squier VM jazz bass. maple body, maple neck, well made pickups- it's all around a good bass.
