I'm looking for a delay pedal that will, more than anything else, sound good! I'm asking for it for christmas as a gift from my parents, so that sort of rules out keeley modded pedals, BYOC or anything that needs to be purchased online. If I can find something lower less than $200 price range that would be ideal but willing to go over if necessary. I'm planning on using it for soloing and high gain lead, if that affects the choice in pedals.

My current rig is in my sig.

Some pedals I've been considering:

Digidelay -> seems like an ideal choice but have heard conflicting views on whether or not it sucks tone.
DD-3 -> I heard it's overpriced and inferior to the digidelay
DD-6 -> expensive, considering its features.

If necessary I'd be willing to go into the upper range:
Stereo Memory Man w/ Hazarai
DD-20

etc.

Open to other suggestions. What are your thoughts?

Ibanez DE-7.
Very nice analog sim (on "echo" mode). Simple and very good sounding.

Much warmer than the Boss digital delays, less features. A lot cheaper than the others too, only $85 CDN.

So in terms of cheaper pedals, which will suck my tone least out of the carbon copy, digidelay and De-7?

^ not really, just analog. there is no tone suck from the DE-7 at all.

Digitech Hardwire Delay is spectacular. Has an analog setting that's killer too. Definately give one a try before buying something else.

I still say get the mxr because all these boss and digitech pedals have a "analog" setting, but why not just get a true analog pedal.

Definitely the Memory Man. You can never really go wrong with Electro-Harmonix, unless it's price we're talkin'.
