The title says it all. I know I'm not going to find much for this much, but I just want a practice amp that's good for metal and isn't going to destroy my wallet.

Those were the ones that I was thinking of. How is the Cube 15X, because I was considering that one as well.

Thanks for the help by the way.

I'd avoid the marshall MG if I was you, the cube 30 is a bit out of your range, but also a good choice.

EDIt: Found the Peavey Solo. Looks good actually, but they're not selling until January on Musicians Friend. Any other place I can actually BUY a Peavey?

I was actually leaning towards the Peavey Vypr, since I play mostly metal. I would love the Roland 30, but it's out of my price range.

And I've been taught to stay away from the Marshalls.

i think the vypyr 15 is whats best for you. along with the cube, its the best cheap modeling amp for metal, but i only like the bigger cubes, so i'd go with the vypyr.

Thanks everyone for your help. I think I will buy the Peavey Vypr 15.

But before I do, how are the other Peavey practice amps, like

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Rage258
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Backstage

Are either of these worth my time, or should I just stick with the Vypr?

Marshall are NOT bad practice amps. The 10 Watts are good beginner amps.

Your best choices:
-Marshall MG10 (10 Watts)
-Peavy Vypyr (15 Watts)
-Roland Microcube

If you plan on getting pedals a Marshall would be better, but for built-in effects get a Vypyr or a Microcube.

Thats the point. Its not meant to be a tube amp, it was built as a solid state. If you want a solid state, thats the best one you can find. If you want a tube amp, get a Valveking.

I just like them anyway. Someone can consider it if they like how it sounds, they shouldn't just ignore it.

Still doesn't change the fact they are overpriced, unreliable, and sound awful at higher volumes. The larger ones are even worse since they are over sized practice amps.

That's complete BS, I love the distortion I get through the R-Fier model. Idk about the 20X and 15X, which don't have it, but on the 30X or the Micro Cube you can't complain about distortion.

Get the right size SS and you don't need it at higher volumes, people overuse that argument way too much. Sure my crate would sound like crap at 8, but it shakes my house at 2 and sounds the same at low volumes, you don't have to crank it and kill yourself unlike a large tube amp to sound how it should.

Now the tone on it sucks, but my Zoom doesn't.

And I agree with the rest.

You don't have to crank a tube amp to sound good.

I understand why you get a higher wattage SS amp, doesn't change the fact that the high wattage MGs are still practice amps, thus defeating the point of getting a high wattage version. I only mention that they sound bad at high volumes because some of the better 30 watt practice amps are capable of jamming without sounding like utter sh!t, the MG and spider really aren't.

Tone is subjective my friend. I think the R-Fier sounds fuzzy, and terrible for leads.

Thus the reason that I never even considered it. I've really never heard anything that great about Marshall amps other than their tube stuff, so I wasn't even considering that as a choice.

I won't yell at you that's for sure. I'm not gonna be an ass to somebody that's not only standing up for what they like, but also sticking to it. Some people would make the comment that they're good, but then with enough complaints change their mind. You still haven't done that, therefore I respect you
