I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.

basswood is the closest, i think. it's pretty much simple, boring and an off-white/cream color.

White ash has white in the name.

I can't vouch for how white it is though.

Yes you can, you have to bleach some woods to get a decent stain on it, lacewood for example.

nah poplar is green in color, and should be painted over for sure.

I'm using maple on my guitar its pretty light in color. (Extremely heavy though...)

I think basswood is just barely off-white.

Yeah, but say you had a maple neck with an ebony fretboard and wanted to do a wood binding on the fretboard... Basswood is pretty light for sure, but definitely not hard enough for a fretboard. You'd basically have to use maple for that, but then it'd just blend in with the back of the neck. And also, a whiter colour would be prettier. So that's my mission- to find out if maple bleches well, and what sort of bleach one would use for this.

Nah, I'm using some poplar in my 100GPB build, and it's white as maple or pine. I did have to sift through a lot of green boards to find white ones though. About 3/4 of the poplar boards at home depot were green or had green streaks in them.

I'm sure you can bleach maple, how effective it would be is another thing, might make it a bit lighter who knows I havent tried lol

There are 3 types of wood bleach used for various tasks, two part bleach, chlorine bleach and oxalic acid. The one you want for lightening the wood is two part bleach.

Its sodium hydroxide and hyrdrogen peroxide and is sold in seperate containers.
