What are your thoughts on it? In my country there was a billboard a few weeks ago for a beer company which said "Let's take a moment this Christmas to think about Christ. Yeah right!"

I can see why Christians were offended, but I don't think the billboard was attacking Christ; I think it was attacking the commercialism of Christmas.

PS. I am an athiest actually.

I find it sad that Christmas has become less about giving and sharing, and more about "BUY BUY BUY SPEND SPEND SPEND" etc etc.

It's losing its traditional values.

i'm not for any religion but i don't mind christmas or christmas commercialism at all....we're all naturally selfish and enjoy getting "stuff", i can't complain

well, christian or not, it's still about jesus' birth in the first place so i think that the simple fact that people who don't believe in jesus but celebrate anyway show how commercial it is. Nobody even gives a **** about him anymore, it's all about presents and shopping and it's just depressing. I turned on the radio the other day and it was all like "shopping season is here!". i just thought "holy ****! they don't even call it christmas or holiday season anymore, it's shopping season. how commercial can you get?"

You know, Santa Claus only wears a red suit because Coca Cola got a hold of him. He wore green before then. So.. It's not like you were ever around BEFORE Christmas became commercialized.

I'm not religious at all, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Jesus wasn't actually born on December 25th.

I agree though, it has become very commercialized (hence christmas ad's as soon as thanksgiving ended) for better or for worse.

It's a bit ironic if it's attacking the commercialisation of Christmas whilst advertising beer, isn't it? Don't consider it so deeply. If it has got you talking, it's a successful advertisement.

actually, "Due to a fourth century arrangement to offset the pagan Roman Saturnalia festival, the birth of Jesus is celebrated on December 25."

and i do believe that somewhere in the Bible it says that as Mary was giving birth, the angel Gabriel told her to eat some dates off the tree. i dont think that dates grow around the december time

in conclusion, i do not believe Jesus was born on christmas.

Christmas Is actually a Pagan winter solstice festival and has nothing to do with christianity what so ever.

it is held on the winter solstice because Pre-christian Europeans believed that on the longest night of the year the sun died and then was reborn as the days started getting longer again

the tree is based off the belief that seeing as pine trees, being evergreen, don't loose their leaves in winter they therefore represent immortality

I get pissed off that christians are always trying to turn our Pagan cultural festival into a Christian thing, making everything about their god and wingeing every ****ing year when they don't even understand that THEIR VERSION was only put in place to try and convert pagans as Jesus Christ wasn't even born on Dec 25th, In my opinion they are in need of a serious history lesson

That's a horrible attitude to have. I get the feeling that Jesus is up in Heaven right now, watching Sixteen Candles.. and crying because he can relate to Molly Ringwald.

I'm glad it has become commercialized for two reasons.
1. It undermines the traditional religious nature of the holiday (I'm fine with the values like being with family ect... but I'm not too fond of religion)

2. Consumerism during the dark winter months (at least here in Canada) can help keep companies healthy when people otherwise would rather not spend money.
