After listening to some Rush Limbaugh and hearing his opinion (typical conservate opinion), I thought I would make this thread. So.....

Do you shop at Wal*Mart? Why or why not?

What are your thoughts on Wal*Mart and its criticisms?
#2
No. Don't have it here. Isn't it just a shop? Why would there be a debate about it?

Wal-Mart is the end result of capitalism. If you don't like it, move to Sweden. I'm not whole-heartedly supporting capitalism, but its true.

Well, if it's capitalist, I like it. I don't know that much about Walmart, but from what I've heard it's more towards the conservative side of things, which is where I am.

So.. you just agree with everything that is capitalist/conservative without knowing anything about it?

That's politically responsible.

walmart owns ASDA here in the UK.

They have turned our town into traffic chaos because they dumped their new shop somewhere stupid and caused a major bottleneck

The c*nts have cost me 30 days a year in extra travel time to and from work.

If I worked that time, I could earn an extra 20+ grand, so yeah, they can FAKOWF

I disagree with how they hire illegal aliens and pay them ridiculously low wages and force American born citizens to search for other options and suffer.

Bad, but I still shop there at times. I don't usually feel bad about it, but if I thought about it more I would.

In the broader sense of the word, yes, but they're socialist, which isn't true capitalism.

Problem is it's a predatory corporation that drives out other businesses with its prices, destroys the market, and is a perfect example of the reason pure lassiez-faire capitalism doesn't work. It has a horrific labor record and a history of bullying firing its workers for trying to unionize or otherwise be treated fairly, pays next-to minimum wage, used to falsely advertise itself as "we buy American," but it was a baldfaced lie, and they simply didn't.

It's bull****. It doesn't acknowledge at all that although they would pay full time employees a certain amount, they have severely cut back on full time employees. Doesn't even bring up how many people have been fired for medical reasons, or the lawsuits involved with those medical problems. TDF has clearly never worked for a Wal-Mart, and neither have Penn and Teller.

people actually think walmart is a bad thing?! Only business owners would say that. It's what keeps me able to afford the cost of living. otherwise people could choose the price they want...

bad for small businesses, but good for me.

i don't shop there often, but they have some really good prices.

plus, one wal-mart can employ a lot more people than a handful of local shops. unfortunately they probably will pay less, and might not offer as good of benefits.

At least these guys come right out and say they're biased. They've never ever said that they were impartial. And they usually have tits on their show. What's not to love?

Michael Moore is a fat hippie who has no tits on his show besides his own.

On topic, I have no problem with WalMart. The tiny little store who are getting run out of town can just lower their overpriced crap if they wanna compete.

Only problem's the whole union thing. I just bought a pancake gridle there for 25$ so I can't complain about much.

We did a whole month on Wal-Mart in economics last year and I had to participate in a debate in support of them, defending their environmental policies. Long story short I owned that wannabe greenpeace bitch and even though I refuse to shop their for few things except cheap kitchen appliances I've been converted to at least neutral on the Wal-Mart debate.

Until they allow their workers their right to organise I'm against them. They're thinking of buying an Irish chain of stores, and if they do I won't shop there.

bad for labor. If walmart dominates the labor market, they can (and do) pay less that what would otherwise be normal wages and get away with it because workers have no other options. furthermore, walmart is notorious for mostly using part-time positions (even when people work nearly full-time shifts) to avoid giving benefits.

It's alright for consumers with secure jobs, for a while. It's bad for the economy as a whole because it discourages competition.

They are pretty bad, especially when it comes to supplier domination and control.
They've put more than a few suppliers out of business by first dominating their supply chain and then ditching them when they don't want them anymore.
