Okay, so I've realized that I really need to tighten up the sound of my VK halfstack.
I need it to sound a tiny bit clearer, a tiny bit less muddy, a bit less feedback, hum, and
noise, and the tiniest hint more of gain could be nice, but not necessary
Keep in mind that I'm using a low-end Peavey Windsor cab, and replacing
it would probably help alot, but that'd cost too much at the moment.
So I'm looking to buy a pedal to help with the situation.

I'm either gonna go for the MXR 10 band EQ, or the Hardwire CM-2 tube overdrive pedal (atleast for now, both of them will come once I have enough money.)
Which one will help tighten up my tone the most substantially?

Uhh, for curiosity sake, I'm playing through a washburn x-series with an EMG 81.

Sorry, had to.

Get the MXR if you HAVE to get a pedal and not a cab.

It has come to my recent attention that our good friend CoreysMonster is not permanently detained in the Fotb.

The overdrive will probably do what you want with much more immediacy, the EQ would require tweaking and, in my opinion, would be better used in other ways anyway.

VKs have really crappy muddy distortion IMO but a great clean sound, so id suggest getting a good pedal, maybe a TS9 or a good metal pedal
The Mitch Clem formula

2)make obvious punk puns, possibly related to food
3)make fun of Rancid and NOFX again

I agree.
Well the cm-2 hardwire tube overdrive from what ive heard totally out-competes the
TS9 for the exact same price.
So that's what I'd go for.

I'm getting really mixed answers though.
What pedal would have the most immediate help?
And would the tube overdrive help clean up the muddiness at all?

If you use it right it should take out the flabby bottom end, give you a slight mid boost and make the attack of your picking more prominent so...yes basically, as I said; the EQ would take some tweaking to do the same thing whereas the OD you can just turn the gain down, output and tone up and Bob's your uncle.

I dont know, I get a nice tight distortion out of mine, then again, I use very little gain.

Why does everyone have that problem?

You can't get very great metalcore/metal type gain out of it without it feedbacking
your balls off.
It isn't too bad though, I agree with that.

I get plenty of distortion out of it, there's a recording on my profile that I used my VK on, sounds fine to me =/.

Then again, I dont go for that kind of sound.

Yeah, wrong section.

Make sure your pick attack is at a 90 degree angle to your strings and you're muting unwanted strings. Turn your gain down a bit and your mids up (a description of your amp settings would help greatly).

That aside, look into a noise reduction pedal like the one in my sig.

This may seem obvious, but there's a chance you could have overlooked the 'tight/loose' switch on the back of the head. Make sure you have it in the right position, and that you're all the way to the A/B side. That'll get you a tighter sound.
