What's the best solid state amp I can get for under $900USD?

I need something that'll sound good for metal at low volumes. Tube is an option. but SS sounds better at lower volumes, and I won't be cranking it for another 2 years or so, I really just need a good practice amp.

no MG plz.

I tried it out in store.

Great neck, nice n light, good tuning stability. Overall a good guitar. I didn't but it cause I generally only buy guitars over a grand now.

You don't need to crank a tube amp to make it sound good for metal...

I use a peavey Ultra 60 watt combo, i usually play it below 2/10 volume, but it still sounds pretty good.
Better than any solid state i played.

...and it just gets better when i can crank it.
I'm not cool.

Randall does pretty well until you get a tube...

Ampeg VH-140C

Best SS metal amp around and destroys alot of tube amps on the market today as well.

Ebay doesn't have any for sale, neither does my local craigslist

Reccomend a Randall SS for under $900USD?

Another vote for the Ampeg VH-140C, really, they're sick amps. I've owned a lot of high end tube amps, and the Ampeg is the only one I've been completely satisfied with so far

That being said though, tube amps don't sound bad at low volumes, and with $900, you could buy a pretty nice one.

Other Solid State options:

Line 6 HD147
Randall V2
Line 6 Vetta II

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

the question shouldnt be "whats the best ss amp i can get" or "what is the best tube amp i can get." you should be asking, "what is the best amp (ss or tube) that i can get to play metal."
and for $900, you can get alot of great sounding metal rigs, tube or SS.

Randall RH150G Pluses are amazing for metal. You can get half-stack or combo, the head (150 watts) 569 dollars, and the 300 watt (waaay overkill) is over 600. Good luck!!!

dude you could get a Randall RG50C for like 600 bucks and then get an attenuator if you wanted to...that amp is pure metal.

actually, better question - do you want more of an American or British voicing for the type of metal that you play?
