so I'm playing on a Fender Roc Pro 700.

I have the gain at 10 and its a bit noisy, and not enough gain. There is only one 12ax7 in the amp.

If i put an OD in front, would it push it just like an all tube amp, or just make is sound like crap?

I'm just looking for a bit more push and gain.

If it's okay, what would you suggest?

I think it would sound like crap.

Seeing as there is only one preamp tube
It's probably only supporting your clean channel.

The gain coming from your guy's amps is all digital.

But you're not gonna find a $300 amp with tube gain
(Actually I bought a Bugera 6260 for $300 new.. But it was on sale)
But that's aside from the point.

Well there are some distortion pedals that have tubes in them
My favorite has been the Blackstar HT-DISTX

Yeah, but find one with at least 2 preamp tubes.
ONE supporting the gain channel

I didn't mean theres no under $300 tube amp.
I know there is

But yeah,
as IbanezPsycho proved, some SS amps can take OD pedals very well.
Just don't try it on the insane channel of your Line 6 Spider haha

Depending on the amp it can take to od's quite well. My randall loved a good clean boost infront of it and so does my Ampeg and these are 100% solid state. Like anything else give it a try and see what happens..

your randall was solid state? i always thought it was tube

and to the TS, chances are its gonna be just like a SS amp with an OD in front of it. it might work nicely with a clean boost, but it might be fizzy crap
periphery/bulb!

gear:
Ibanez RG7321 w/ D-sonic in bridge

Peavey 5150 mk ii & b52 4x12 cab

line 6 podxt for recording

Head and Cab for $130? You don't need a head and cabinet, you need a psychological examination.
