So I love more or less all rock music of nearly any subgenre from the '60s to the '90s, but it has recently been pointed out to me more than once that I like really old music.

Now, I'm not wrapped up in what's being cool, but I want to expand my musical horizon.

This decade has been dominated by rap, and the rock that exists is all about getting rich and acting like a jerk.

So what can we pull from the wreckage of this decade musically and say is good music?

EDIT: I changed my mind about the topic.

What do you think will be iconic music of this decade 10 years from now?

When you think of '60s, you think of psychadelic and folk rock, like Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, and Bob Dylan

When you think of the '70s you think of disco and classic rock.

When you think of the '80s you think of thrash metal and hair metal

When you think of the '90s you think of grunge and alternative.

When you think of the '00s you think of _____________?
He's a freak of nature, but we love him so.

Quote by John Frusciante
Music isn't the Olympics. It's not about showing other people what you can do with a piece of wood in your hands that has strings on, it's about making sounds that are good.

The only thing I can think of is pre-All the Right Reasons Nickelback, but then again, they started back in the '90s. But The Long Road, 2003 I believe, was a damn good album.

Really Nickleback? Everything they do sounds the exact same as the album before it, it's really ****ing stupid.

I like Black Mountain (kinda zepplini/pink floydy with a female vocalist) they're cool. I listen to a lot of H.I.M. not because they are very deep musically though I do enjoy some of their goth, angst-ridden lyrics and they have a good unique rock package (all jokes aside).

I also like Muse though not sure if they can be included since they came on the scene in the late 90s despite me only liking their albums made in the last 8 years. People really like the white stripes though I'm not a huge fan. The killers are popular and I couldn't name 1 of their songs but I remember hearing one and asking about it because it sounded good. I too suffer from not caring a lot about modern music mostly because I hate the industry sooo much that it is hard for me to want to support mainstream acts.
