Please answer if you can.

Why do atheists/non-believers celebrate Christmas? It really is ****ing bull****. If you dont believe in Jesus and are not a Chrstian, why would you celebrate a holiday about a man you dont believe exists? That has got to be the most hypicritical thing I have ever heard of. I know most of you morons will say "lYkje FoR ThE PrEsENRsts!!!11111"

But in all seriousness, If you are an atheist or a non believer that celebrates christmas, please explain why.

Because theres just no escaping Christmas.

It's not really Christian anyways - it was originally a pagan festival in which gifts were exchanged in celebration of the passing of the shortest day of the year I think - correct me if I'm wrong

And yeah, I like the presents

Christmas was never about Jesus' birth. Jesus was born sometime between the Spring and early Summer months. Christmas is a holiday adopted from loads of other holidays, specifically a Roman "holy day" (holiday) celebrated right around this time.

uh atheists can believe that jesus was real, in fact many other religions do, with the exception that he was gods son. 2ndly christmas isnt about giving (in todays society), its about recieving, as someone pointed out, its the celebration of commercialism and capitalism. which leads me to my last point as you put it in your original post: for the presents, because really what the f*** is the point of giving other ppl presents and getting presents have to do with the fact the 3 wise men gave jesus presents in the past. its. fcuking. pointless.

freedoms_stain raped your paragraph of idiocy with two lines of brilliance.

And I celebrate it because I enjoy spending time with my family, I dont give a damn if it was some zombie's birthday, I get to see family during that time that I dont get to otherwise.

Get off your ****ing religious high horse and come to realize that not everyone gives a damn about what you think is right.

This happend in scandinavia i know for sure: for a long time ago, christians wanted to make christianity more popular so they made one of their main holydays to a already celebrating day: 24 december. Jesus were born i April or something

1. What freedoms_stain said.
2. That doesn't really answer TS' question, though. The answer to that is basically: for the loot.

I actually agree with TS in a way, I dont care where Christmas comes from, it is basically a religious festival that should be celebrated by those who belive in that religion

Christians celebrate CHRISTmas because they believe Jesus Christ was born some time around then and was the saviour etc.

It really f**ks me off that people who do not believe in which ever religion Christmas is about, celebrating Christmas, its just a time when every one becomes really materialistic and shallow, when ever you ask any one why they like it, its due to presents, not spending time with their family

and its made worse by all the big corporations basically fuelling the Christmas hype and advertising it all as a 'time for giving and sharing' so they can sell as much $hit as possible and get fat off the profits.

I really hate Christmas these days, although I do actually like spending time with my family, and you get a damn nice meal. I would much rather people who are ever thinking of spending money on me as a present donate it to charity.

For the same reason that a Canadian might light off fireworks on the 4th of July. They're not celebrating Independence Day, they just want to make some things explode. In the same way, non-believers aren't celebrating the birth of Christ, they just want to have some fun and presents. It's logical, believe me.

TS, if you knew anything, you would know that jesus most likely wasn't born anytime around december 25th, and christians used to celebrate it earlier in the year. They changed it to the 25 of december to try and convert other people to christianity since other holidays were around that time.

The wreaths, christmas trees, and all the stuff like that, we stole from the paegans(thats probably spelled wrong).

Besides, whats wrong with atheists celebrating the non-religious parts of the holiday season? I don't see anything in the bible talking about decorating your house and putting presents under a tree.
