Hey guys...i need a little help deciding on my first electric guitar. and i dont know anything about an electric since my very first guitar was an acoustic ibanez (V series). I need your decision on which guitar(s) i should buy. My price range is $100-$200 and my favorite bands are Three days grace, Atreyu, and Slipknot (if this help you). i already have my eye on a Ibanez GSA60 guitar, but what do you guys think would be good?

Reply soon
Cheers!

Ibanez is always a good brand to go with, especially for a first guitar. RG120 is a decent axe as well.

I'm getting a GSA60 used for $120 (Came with upgraded humbuckers), You might be able to find a similar deal.

Note: Im a intermediate guitar player on the acoutic, but i know nothing on electric. I have played my friends Ibanez Rg-1 and it started to fall apart in the 2 months he got it. i want a guitar that can take a beating, yet stay in shape. :]

Well I know ibanez makes good starter guitars. You can probably find something nicer than the GSA20 though...The RG120 is supposed to be rather good. Ibanez are known to be more of a metal guitar though. Not that its "Only metal" but just leans towards it more. You can always look towards the epiphones too if you want to try some different variety. I got the GSA120 mostly because of the HSS setup on it as opposed to most of the others being HH (and the price) for the variety.

i see...Ill look into the epiphones. I like the metally sounds that ibanez put off (listen to slipknot "physcosocial" and three days grace "Riot"). i dont really know! lol.

Well you can get a lot of tone through your amp so look at modeling amps too while your at it. Peavey Vypyr, Roland Cube/MicroCube are good ones for starters.

my squier bullet strat can take a beating and for the first few months i had it stayed in tune so if u get a bullet strat replace the tuners after about six months

I have searched some guitars. Tell me if you would reccomend ANY to me.

You won't get a decent amp for $60. The cheapest you'll get is probably the Vypyr 15.

As for your guitars...I've heard the LP2 isn't so good. Your friend's Ibanez RG that crapped out probably had an Edge III tremolo, which the 120 doesn't have so that would be a good choice. The RG120 has a non-floating tremolo, which basically means it has none of the hassles of a floating tremolo, but you can't whammy it without sending it out of tune. The other Ibanez is good as well, try to try them both out and pick which one you like better.

And please don't get a Warlock. Most cheap B.C. Riches are very bad, although they do make some nice higher end guitars. And the Warlock is particularly ugly.

But yeah, I'd definitely go with one of the Ibanezes.

I got a pretty cheap Ibanez SZ-E320 (i may have mixed up the letters, check my profile for the exact one), i got it for £370 or so but im not sure how many dollars that is, im assuming something similar because of the **** Britian is going through economy wise! But yeh, the guitar is great for a range of genres, i play metal stuff like machine head and avenged sevenfold, but also blues and nice clean stuff, its really versatile!

Check the guitar I got in my sig. Bought for 15 bucks, spent a little time on it, and now it plays decently.

It's tough to be happy with a cheap setup. I paid 240 for a used Carvin SX-200 amp and while it's pretty decent, I HAD to have some tubes so I just bought a Mesa. I hope you are more content than I, lol.

Well, I have an RGR420EX which an absolutely amazing guitar. It's $600, though, and has a Floyd Rose Tremolo (I would advise avoiding those since it's your first guitar and they can get a little confusing).

My advice would just be to go to a guitar shop and try the guitars out. Once you find one that feels right to you and you've exhausted all of your other options, buy it.

Thanks everyone!

I still havent decided yet... but i still have some questions.

What's a tremelo?
What's a floating tremelo?

Thanks for giving me your opinions!
cheers.

Tremelo is a kind of bridge that allows you to use a tremelo arm to lower the pitch of a note while playing.

EDIT: I think I got the info on a floating tremelo wrong, bridges arent my strongpoint in guitar knoweledge

You're right.

A tremolo bridge lets you lower the pitch of a note (e.g. Fender Strat). A floating tremolo has a hole carved away next to the bridge so you can pull down AND up (e.g. most shred-style guitars like Ibanez).

It is ver y unlikely you will get a good combo amp for $60 TRy getting a Marshall 10 watt I think it is like $70 I personally haven't used the amp but Marshall always makes good amps

Eww a 10 watt MG series? Id say save up to 40 extra bucks and get a small modeling amp or an Ibanez toneblaster series instead of an MG.That's just my personal opinion though,I've played the MG series and it sounded like a box full of pissed off hornets.
