Funny... but a little weird story today.
As some of you may know, I go to a Protestant school, so the society and the rules are very strict and conservative.
Girls aren't allowed to show any clevidge or their thighs and above.
Guys can't wear ripped clothing or clothing that symbolizes something controversial.
I wore a tshirt with Che Guevara on it and I got penalized by Dress code because it represented communism, which in their mind was anti-Christianity.
Yeah, it's full of ****.

One of my friends today got penalized for reading a horror fiction by Edgar Allan Poe, because it involved violence.
I can't recall what the book was, but is this legal?

Signing up for private school = agreeing to abide by their rules.
Well he doesn't say anywhere that it's a private school.

We have religious state schools in Scotland. I went through Catholic Primary and Secondary state schools.

Go to a different school?

Ah, never mind then. I'm not sure what Japan's position on religion in public education is. If it's anything like the United States where all religious schools are private, then I was right.

No we didn't show up with speedos and bikinis, the rebellious class a year below us showed up with offensive tshirts like "fcuk" (yeah, I know what it stands for).
They were ****ed up by the principle and were forced to clean the whole school the next day.

Samuri's would work better. They'll restore the fuedal system for you.

Well you are in Japan first of and I don't know the laws there. But here in America, a school, especially a private school can basically tell you what you can and cannot wear, read, or advertise within its property zone. Out in the public in the U.S you can read, or wear whatever you like. Bill of rights, bro.

I could make a spelling joke right now, but I won't.

I always feel stupid saying this, but I have no idea what other country's laws are... Whether your location is correct or not, y'know, but quite frankly I think it's really garbage if they're not even letting you read something you want to. Poe is a great writer, everyone should be entitled to read his works.

If I were you, I wouldn't give a damn about the education. Imho, those examples you gave were enough to make me cringe. I'd seriously change schools.

P.S. I'm a womanfolk! : )

No, the phrase "Is it legal?" is from the popular British sitcom from the 90's.
It means whether if it's "right", whether that may sound different to some people.

Well I wouldn't use past tense since I was under the impression that such a system was still in place today, and since I just checked the website of my former secondary and it's still listing itself as "6 Year Comprehensive Catholic Co-educational" I imagine it still is.

Che Guevara was a communist, and communism in it's essence is Anti-Christianity. Karl Marx referred to all religion, particularly Christianity, as "the opiate of the masses." He considered it an institution to be struck down in the place of a government-run industrial economy in which the higher powers decide what, when, and where the resources go for "maximum efficiency." Funding of churches didn't fit into that plan, clearly.

As for the book: technically you're not dealing with the law of the land, but that makes no difference. In an established institution like that, the laws of the institution are the ones to be followed as long as you are on the premises.

There are two catholic schools just up the street from me, as well as my "non-denominational" school. The system still exists.
