Not buying used is shooting yourself in the foot. Buy used, dammit.

I second the JCM800.

Just get it cut a little. It will grow back. Besides why is it so important to look metal? That's just retarded.

A Marshall JCM sounds like it would be for you, and why the hell don't you want to buy used?!?
Peavey XXX combo *upgraded screen resistors, Tung-Sol's, and 6L6's*
Schecter Syn Std. * modded, scalloped, and worn*
Schecter C-1 Elite *still sexy*

One bad experience isn't worth the hassle, especially considering the money you'll save.

cheaper Marshall crunch= Marshall valvestate
best quality crunch= JCM(whatever your feeling)

212 combos are great and can do the same as the larger half stack versions and buying one can reduce your cost by outing the price of a cab. also, buying a cheap cab with an amazing head can be just as bad as using an SS p.o.s. somebody correct meh if im wrong here?

Marshall valvestate =/= marshall crunch.

Other than that you're pretty much right. I won't go into technicalities about how not every SS amp is crap.

i use a fender for cleans, so i would only be using the Marshall for distortion; would a valve-state get the job done and which one should i get.
#13
Stay away from the valvestate, and at least do yourself a favor and look around for a used JCM800. What fender do you use?

go to mapquest or something, and try and find a nice used music store near you. i understand that you dont want to buy expensive gear off of ebay, but if you find a good store, you could try something out first

Head and Cab for $130? You don't need a head and cabinet, you need a psychological examination.
