I want to make a frankenstrat clone but I don't really wanna use my Squier since I might be able to sell it. I know you need tough wood for the neck but is it possible to use cheapo pine wood that you would find anywhere (school woodwork crap bin for me) for the body?

Yeah, you can use Pine for the body. But it might sound quite dodgey and it may be too soft in general.

Why just make a lookalike when you have a brilliant opportunity to make a great guitar? Get some proper wood and you'll be happy in the long run.

That was a typo, I'm only going to make one that I can keep. If I like them and I get a good responce I might consider making them out of a used strat copy off ebay or something and selling them.
