I am in the process of designing a transistor bass guitar amp and am wondering if I could use combine two Darlington Pairs into a larger Darlington Pair with four transistors, to create an amazingly large gain.

Opinions? Answers?

Didn't Kerry King use MGs at some point?

I think he just endorses them because he likes sacks of money

Sure. Why not? Just design it using a push pull configuration - 2 in pull configuration and the other 2 in push. As long as your voltage and current supply is good, it should work fine. Just be aware that darlington transistors are a little slow to turn off, which can result in poor phasing. Also, make sure you provide adequate heat sinking to dissipate the heat. With all that gain, it's bound to get hot.

Sounds brootal.

My suggestion: at first solder in just the transistor sockets, or some general one pin sockets if the Darlington pair causes placing problems. So if it will sounds **** you can remove a few from the 4 transistors

Maybe you will create something good.
