I have a maple neck. do i apply clear gloss on to it? or something else

i want to have that new guitar store look ,very shiny.

and how do i put it on and how much gloss do i apply?

the neck is Maple with rosewood fingerboard(I know not to apply anything on the fretboard apart from lemon oil) it is a Jackson RR3 neck 22 frets

it may not be the best at this but my technique works for me.

1-sand off sealer on it lightly

2-apply sanding sealer

3-lightly sand to smooth it out

4-repeat steps 2 and 3 about 4 times or until satisfied

5-clear coat

6-polish.

7-???

If you want the high gloss shiny finish then yea thats one way to get it. You would need to tape off the fretboard so it doesnt get sprayed.

on second thoughts forget it

i was hoping i could just apply a little gloss up and down, to update my neck

I havent got a spray, i just have a small tin of it.

theres more to than just putting it on, at the least you'll have to even it all out and polish it.

you don't need sanding sealer for maple. it's a tight grained wood.

so let me get this right:

1. Get spray/ put gloss into spray bottle

2. Tape off finger board ovb

3. lightly sand to smooth out - (is this to get rid of the old gloss?)

4. once neck is clear of dust and crap then apply gloss

5. polish off
