So I got a new MIM strat the other day and I've noticed a problem with the nut. Whenever I touch the whammy bar even a little bit, I get a "ping" or creaky sound from the nut area. It doesnt come through on the amp but its very noticible while playing. The guitar is brand new and set up with the original factory Fender Bullet strings. Any ideas on what it is or how to fix it?

TIA

rub a pencil tip in the cuts to lube them.

Jenny needs to sow her wild oats with random Gibsons and Taylors she picks up in bars before she settles down with a PRS.

I'll try that. Does it matter what type of pencil?

Also, what height should the string tree be? How does this affect the guitar?

a HB graphite pencil should do the trick, and im not too sure on the string tree, but im sure it has to be a little bit lower then the nut, for tension

A soft one, preferably. These give of the most graphite, usually.

The string tree should be about the height where it kind of 'locks down' and guides your string to the correct tuning post without it slipping from the nut, but not too low as it will negatively effect your string tension.

it'll change the break angle in the string.
and keep the string deeper in the nut, so it doesnt pop out.

no matter on the pencil. (graphitE)

and use a lube under the tree too. like a dab of light machine oil (3 in1)
