the strat itself has a humbucker-humbucker setups
but the emg wiring diagrams arent really any help
i want the setup to be like... vol-tone-tone wit the 5 way switch
but i'm just very lost with what to solder and what not to solder

Are the pups in it now Active?
You'd have to do a good bit more of work if they aren't!
If they are, Just take it into like a Guitar Center and they can install.
Usually pretty cheap.
And then I'd experiment with a cheap guitar first.

seymourduncan.com?

You may want to check with the pickup wiring configs to check and see if the colored wires for emg match those for semour duncan.

Just buy the pickups and leave the installation to a pro. Active pup wiring is different from passive

thats one way to do it. Or you can learn how to do it yourself and save yourself some money.

Yeah but the chances are if it's the first time for you,
You'll probably mess up. I did, with my burstbucker.
(WHAT A MESS.)
If it's your first time, Ultimately you'll save money if
you get it done right the first time!

yah but if you always take the easy way out and pay someone else to do it you'll never learn how to do it yourself. you could always practice on regular copper wire before you actually do it. it's alot cheaper to do it yourself, and you learn skills to mod and fix your own guitar down the road.

but TS, if you are uncomfortable with doing it yourself just get a pro to look at it. You could even ask him if he'll show you how to do it.

No doubt, I dont disagree with you, he should learn.
Though not if it's his first time.

Like I suggested before, I'd practice with a cheaper guitar so you can also tell if it works, rather than just a copper wire.

But yes, you will need to learn sometime.

a 5-way switch isn't do-able with the 81/85 combo, you'd want a 3-way switch instead.
i used to be a mod, then i took an arrow in the knee.

You can use the 5 way solder the neck pickup to where the original neck pickup was. And the bridge pickup to where the middle was. The old bridge position would then become a kill switch.
