I'm an intermediate punk guitarist in a band that is looking to play some small gigs around my small town. What amp and guitar would you suggest i get? I will consider anything from $700-1200.

hahaha ya good idea. I was thinking the Tom Delonge Signature is that a good choice?

Some kind of Les Paul or SG. A JCM800 would be ideal for an amp, but look at the Peavey Windsor or some Traynors. Maybe a Cube 60 if you want to double as a practice amp. Or a Roland Jazz Chorus + MI Audio Crunch box. You could also get a Valve Junior or a Blackheart Little Giant and just crank it with an overdrive.

^^ ehh if you got the $$. it has DirtyFingers in it so it can get heavy

if you get a strat, make sure it has a humbucker. the Tom Delonge sig strat has a SD Invader which is a humbucker, but also one of the worst pickups Seymour Duncan makes.

No, the Invader is not the worst pickup ever made by them. Yes, it is muddy, ON CERTAIN GUITARS.

Orange Tiny Terror amp head, $550:
http://www.rocknrollvintage.com/buy-orange-tiny-terror-amps.htm

Used speaker cab, $150-$250

Schecter Griffon, $350:
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Schecter-GRYPHON-Limited-Edition-Flametop?sku=518483

I'd highly recommend the Tiny Terror w/ a cheap cab. The Schecter was just an idea. I recommend you go to a guitar shop and play around with what they have until you find "the one."

Which amp?

If I were you I would go for this and swap out the speakers later: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Peavey-Windsor-All-Tube-Half-Stack?sku=485059

Or this, it's solid state, but it still sounds pretty good, can get loud, and will work as a practice amp: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Roland-Cube-60-Guitar-Amp?sku=480197

Then I would look for a used Epi or Gibson Les Paul studio or SG used and make sure it plays well. Maybe an Agile depending on the budget.

i have an epiphone wilshire guitar from guitarcenter.com that's like $300 before tax, i originally bought it to swap out the pickups for some humbucker-sized p90s and when it came the sound was actually good so im waiting till i can buy some new tuners and some more stuff before i upgrade it. awesome price too, if you can find one in a store i'd say try it.

One of the points of punk is that you can use nearly anything you want. Les Paul Juniors/Telecasters get a lot of use in 'old' punk bands. (the clash for example) and Marshalls will do that sound very well (JCM800 for example)

Fender Telecaster (maybe with a humbucker?) + PEavey Classic 30 = decent punk tone.
#23
I'd recommend either a Fender of some sort(it seems nearly every punk group's guitarist(s) use them), or an Epiphone Casino or Dot. One of those three though.

i have an epi les paul already im just in the market for a new guitar

What model and why? If you don't like the way it sounds, a pickup upgrade would be cheaper and more worthwhile than a new guitar. But amps are more important for your sound. The Peavey Windsor is meant to be something like a poor man's JCM800. It should work well for 70s punk, 80s hardcore, pop punk, post-hardcore, oldschool emo, screamo, whatever branching out of punk you can think of. The Cube would be a bit more versatile given that it's a modelling amp, but you'd lose some toneand it wouldn't look as cool. It would be easier to move around though.

Buddy, he's just in the market for a new guitar, not a new amp, leave the amp be and let him pick his new guitar. Also, I lol'd at the bold and assume you buy for looks in your gear.

And a pickup switch is not the ultimate solution. What if he wants something with single-coils?

Look at Seymour Duncan and Dimarzio. They should have sound clips on their sites. I've got the SD '59 and Duncan Custom in my LP and they work well. A lot of people like the JB and Jazz set.

i want a punk sounding tone. something good with distortion. clean isn't to important to me but if it sux i dont want the guitar.

No. That Marshall is horrible. The Peavey Windsor is not only cheaper, it will sound 10x better. If you must have a Marshall, put your budget towards a used JCM800.

That guitar is also probably not what you're looking for.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your buying the guitar only because it says Tom Delonge

Your buying that amp only because it says Marshall.

The guitar wont fufill your needs, and the amp sounds like balls.

and you should listen to the other people and get a marshall jcm800

thank you for your input. I'm probably going to get that peavey windsor and either a fender strat, scheter griffin, or epiphone casino. which is the best guitar?
