And a network card for your old computer

EDIT: Oh freedoms that would've worked if you hadn't made an edit

If it doesn't have an ethernet port, you'll need a router and a wireless card.

Chances are unless its 98 and before, it'll have an ethernet port somewhere.

Using a wireless/network card.

That won't help you.
You need a network/wireless/ethernet card.
pick one.

Not necessarily, network cards will normally be PCI/PCI express I think, so it just slots into your mobo. And depending on what you buy will decide whether it is wireless or wired.

Hint: This is a guitar site, not google. Why not look it up on a computer forum.

HINT: This is the pit, how many non guitar related topics are there here?

inside it
its probably got some empty PCI slots for various extension cards.

you can get a regular ethernet network card for like....$5. A wifi card is probably more around $20.

or you can get a USB ethernet/wifi adapter

Expansion slot.
For best results use A or B.
Depending on your model you may have A,B, or C. (ISA, CRN or PCI).
CRN's are terrible for network cards, But they'll still work.
Wireless would cost more but it's alot more efficient and reliable.

cables ftw

I agree. I'm using a cable atm.
But as a network card, cables get tripped on, card moves, you have to open up your tower, readjust etc.
While with a wireless card inside, unless someone bashes your tower, you really don't have to worry about it.
I personally believe with electronics, if it costs more, it's more reliable.
I've gone by that for a long time now and it hasnt failed me.

(Besides the time I bought a Fender strat. *facepalms*)

run it around the corners of your room

wireless reception around my house is crap and slow as hell (curse you walls!)
