I like to use the tremolo bar ocassionally. MY Casino doesnt have one though. I was thinking about getting a Bigsby installed. Only thing is, this would hurt the tuning and all the other problems of tremolo bars would come into play. Would a whammy pedal work? Or is the difference waaaayyy bigger?

So which should I get?

Bigsby,

or, since I'll only be using it sparingly, just use a whammy pedal or something?

Whammy pedal is (I think) up to like...2 octaves..so, they're totally different. But you might be able to set it to do what you want. Idk, I've only ever used my friends like twice

Well, my question is really:

Should I invest in either, since I'll only be using it once in a while?

Is it worth it?

Are you still toying around with your sound? Or are do you know what you are now. Do you think it is NECESSARY? If not, then don't get it

whammy pedal isnt the same as having a whammy bar. Having said that, getting a bigsby on your guitar will prolly set you back quite alot.

They have two completely different effects to your sound, and a bigsby won't suck your tone. If you want light vibrato and no dives, the bigsby will be fine, I'd suggest you go for it. The whammy pedal is more for experimenting with sounds and pitch, but it seems this isn't what you're after.

The whole "tone suck" of the whammy pedal is way overblown on these forums. If you have one near the front of your chain it's practically unnoticable. It goes in front of the amp, not in the effects loop.

I'll agree that a whammy and a trem system are two completely different things, though. A whammy is made for extreme pitch bending whereas a Bigsby is for more subtle bends.

For a pedal which serves little purpose, unless you're Jack White or Tom Morello, I personally think it's a bit of a liability to have. That being said, I can see the appeal of having one and if you build your tone with the pedal's effects in consideration there's no reason it should be a problem.
