So, I've heard grey and gray are both proper English, so which one do you use?

Oh, sorry for my other topic on this, but I didn't include a poll in that one.

By the way, neither of the two is WRONG. So stop saying z0mfgz0r grey izz wr0ngggg!!11!! .

There's no such thing as proper English

Only standard and non-standard, both are 'correct', in that you can use either without being wrong...as there is no correct English

Make sense?

In England, it's Grey, and Gray is Old English. So they are both correct, dependent on context.

This, basically.

It's quite simple, 'grey' is the British spelling, and 'gray' is the American spelling. Just like 'colour' and 'color' respectively.

Not too difficult

For anyone who spells it "Gray" - you're wrong.

Because, its not spelt like that

Where are you from? Because im from America, and everyone uses gray there...

I think that the spelling varys depending on where you live...

Well the ENGLISH way of spelling it is grey

There is no "American" language.
Seeing "English (US)" as a language option on computers frutrates the crap out of me!
What I just said is a lie.

Yeah. The English way.

American spelling differences tend to be because we've changed our language and they've stuck to the old way of things. Not in all cases, but in a number of them, including 'realise' and 'realize'. Read an older English text and it will be spelt 'realize'. 'Realise' is a modern spelling.

See my above post

Although, Americans don't have everything right.

For example, Maths.

The explanation to why they call it Math instead of Maths is because they think Math is short for Mathematics, there's no s half way through.

In reality, when an abbreviation is made, the plural should be carried on.

For example;

Logarithm (singular)

Logarithms (plural)

Log (singular)

Logs (plural)

We're all wrong in some way or another, really.
