First of all, I hope every one had a very merry Christmas etc., and got everything they wanted.

I got Cakewalk Sonar Home Studio 7 XL, and installed it and everything and I thought i was good to go. Turns out I need an audio interface and/or a MIDI interface. Who would have guessed.

So now here i am asking for your opinions on what I should get for an interface, and, if anyone here uses Sonar Home Studio 7 XL, what do you use for an interface(s)?

Thank you in advance.

so u got the program...and u were gonna record how? line input on computer or mic input...tbh mate yeh u r gonna need na interface or your gonna get **** loads of latency...whats ur budget? cheap wise id say the M-audio fast rack usb...(not a tone port unless the ux2.)

EDIT: after re -reading ur post..u need an interface to plug ur instruments or mics into.....how did u think sonar was going to record ur guitar?? and interface transfers ur signal to the recording software..in ur case sonar...they also provide preamps that boost the signal so it is strong enough to be picked up by ur audio recording software.

Ok, I forgot to mention that i had borrowed this beringer interface from one of my teachers, but its not the right thing I guess. It's the Eurorack UB502.

Sorry about the confusion guys.

Edit: My budget is about $200 American.

Speaking of Line 6, I have the guitar port interface, would that work for this?

Also, I have Windows Vista, if that matters at this point.

Edit: Well guys I did some looking around and I found this!

Update your drivers. I do believe Line 6 has released a driver that is fully compatible with Vista.

For $200 I would get a PreSonus Inspire which is a firewire interface. If you must use USB, the EMU 0404 is a great choice.

Sonar works on some sound cards, it will run on my laptop without an interface but not on my desktop without my interface. I tried that with Sonar 7 Producer.

I don't have the Guitarport software installed on my laptop, so can I still update my drivers?

I'm looking into the EMU 0404, and its looking pretty good.

When i try to download the driver, i just get a blank screen.

Is the EMU 0404 compatible with Vista?

Well then I think that settles it. Would there be anything else I need to buy with the 0404?
