i have an old silvertone P-bass
it was my starter bass and i was wondering if you think it would be worth working on

like would new pickups and perhaps a defret still make it suck?

if you don't hate the feel of the neck then this is exactly what should be done with you're old basses IMO. If you go for a defret I'd look into EMC single coil pickups. They sound amazing on fretless basses. imo anyway.

warwick uses those pickups on the corvette fretless. You might be able to find on at a store to give you an idea what they're like. Remember though, you won't be using the same tonewoods.
