Got it for christmas! Its a Fender Mexican Jazz Bass. Tone is great, I'll post some clips eventually, or maybe not.

Recommendations on songs to learn that use fretless?

That looks sweet. I'm into defretting my old fiver, crappy bass. And I'll probably finish the fretboard, I just love the sound of rounds on fretless.

And sound clips are welcome.

i've always found pop to be harder to play than metal... especially shred metal... it's just really fast tremolo picking and the occasional palm mute... and the only chords you have to worry about are power chords...

Oh check out Tin Drum by Japan. Mick Karn's fretless work on that album is lush.

Another one to look into is Senses working overtime by XTC.

I always find Come Together by the Beatles is far more satisfying on a fretless.

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.

This, aswell as Cynic, Gordian Knot and Atheist's first album.

Geddy Lee also uses a fretless on malignant narcisism, which is a pretty simple song, for Rush atleast.

Opeth - Face of Melinda and I think the whole Damnation album uses a fretless if I remember correctly.

Back in the 70's I decided to take all the frets off Jaco's Bass thinking he would play worse. Man did that backfire.

Anything involving Steve DiGiorgio, and there's a lot. Sadus in particular. Also, the Death stuff mentioned before, and I believe he was in both Cynic and Gordian Knot, but I may be wrong.
