Okay, so after playing the B-52 AT-212, I was convinced that this was the amp I wanted, but since it was too loud, I decided to go with the 112.

My max budget is $600, and a rep from Guitar Center and a local music store both said that there were better amps out there.

I only talked to my local music store rep on the phone, but I actually went to Guitar Center, and a rep brought me to a mini-stack - a Blackheart. It couldn't get br00tal enough for me, and the rep had never heard of the bands I want to imitate.

I'm looking for an amp that can do death metal (I managed to get death metal from the 212 i played) but I also play alot on clean. The AT212 could do it, and I'm pretty positive the 112 would be able to do it too, but are there really better amps in my price range?

maybe if you want to look used. Otherwise, the B-52 is pretty good. they probably want to sell you an MG or Spider. I say go with what you liked to begin with.
#3
If you can go used, im sure theres some kind of mesa or peavey or such that could do what you want better.
Ive heard B-52s are unreliable as well.

I have my B52 in the shop all the time. Something is wrong with it once every two months. Get something used and reliable. I love it when it works, but if you like fixing it all the time, by all means. Go for it.

Dude you're in L.A.? One of the best craigslist spots for gear. I picked up my Recto $600, needed new tubes but..... There are 5150's, JCMs, F/DC series up all the time.

Wait, does it say I'm in L.A?

No, I used to be, probably when I made this account years ago, but I'm in Bedford, Texas right now. Basically, its DFW area.

And I haven't actually been to the local music store, but I know at the Guitar Center there are not a wide selection of metal amps.
They have a bunch of Fenders, Spiders, MG's, Ravens, Vyprs (I'd rather not), Vox (again, I'd rather not) and then amps out of my price range (upper end Marshalls, Mesa, Peaveys) I did see a used XXX, and I got excited, but then I realized it was the head, and I need this purchase to be a combo.

EDIT: Also, I heard that the OLD B-52's are the unreliable ones, the newer ones have the problems fixed.

What year model is your 112? and have you ever needed to take it to the shop?

Also, how does the Randall RG50TC compare to the B-52?

Amps shouldn't break down after a year. Unless it was the power tubes, a new amp should not need to be serviced that soon.

I've seen a lot of B-52s in the shop, enough to say that I would be worried about reliability. They haven't been around that long either, which means that all the ones I see being serviced are relatively new amps too, as opposed to say the Peavey Classics which could easily be 10-15 years old before they see a bench.
#16
Okay, so, since reliabilty is an issue, what amp would you guys suggest in my price range and my style?

note: my 112 was the one they had on display, which is why i managed to nab $200 off with a 2 year warranty.

The only problem was that the fuse blew

You live close to Dallas... Set aside a day and drive down to austin and buy an amp at Austin Vintage Guitars. You can get a Marshall JCM 900 SLX head for $750 or so over there and that will give you some legit metal tones. Bugera and b52 are pretty much junk.
with the left over money you could probaby buy a 212 cab from avatar loaded with v30s or g12t-75s

Well, today I played a Randall RG75...I'm pretty sure its a solid state amp, but it sounded alright?

It has three channels, the only complaint would be that theres a little too much bass, and I hoping the footswitch comes with a button that turns off/on the reverb, but anyway,

Which would be a better choice, the B-52 or the RG75?

Yes, i know alot of links. The 112, 212, and 100 are all the same, just the 112 is 50 watts with 1 speaker and 1 gain channel, the 212 is 100 watts with two speakers and two gain channels, and the 100 is the same as the 212, just in head form. Go B-52s, the reliablity isnt bad on the new models. Hope this helped!!!

I just acquired a used Peavey Bandit Solo Series 50W that's 27 years old. Apparently they are 'the black metal' amp

Ahh, I recognize you. I've seen your first video, and I have yet to check out the rest, but I am quite jealous you have a 212. The only reason why I am not thinking about getting one is because it is way too loud XD

Have you played the 112? because I have played the 212 and loved it, and if the 112 really is just like the 212 just without that extra gain channel, I'm going to get that instead of the Randall RG75

I really like B-52s

The reliability problem thing has basically died, as they updated and improved what was screwing up in their recent models (2007 and afterwards)

They are honestly some of the best amplifiers in thier price range. One of the only amps at guitar center I could get a tone I liked out of (I thought they sounded better than the 5150s tbh! - not the 5150 III but the I and II). They are crunchy, punchy, and powerful. I'd get one for what you play.
#38
the b 52's sound horrible to me.

Not good for death metal

Not the right crunch in my opinion.

the 6505 is killer if you're looking for a crunch heavy rock / metal sound.
But that maybe out of your price range.

they are
and I can't find a combo anywhere. The closest I came to finding an amp on par with the 6505 is this used XXX head, that was in my price range, but buying a head AND a cab was out of the question according to the mother.

You've gotta EQ them properly to get em just right.
Takes a bit of tweaking
