Hi, bought a vk112 used a couple months ago for $200... always thought it was too good to be true and wasn't aloud to play until christmas.

Anyway it sounds great most of the time. Just as it should. But if i've been playing for like 20-30 minutes on it occasionally the volume will drop a lot. It goes back to normal if i put it in standby and wait for 20 seconds and back, but i'm worried that something is messed up...

Today i did notice that one of my tubes got pretty hot... but i've never checked before and maybe that's normal?

thanks in advance- barbs

if your volume is dropping like that it is a good bet it is the power tubes. If you contact a decent online tube outlet you can get a 'matched pair' of power tubes for your VK. Contact them, tell them what you want, tell them if you want your tone changed slightly and they will send you a matched pair that you can replace yourself.

This amp does not need biasing if they are matched. 6L6GCs
