i play guitar and i need a real cheap bass to A) mess around on and B) record really basic stuff with. i was thinking a squier seeing as the guitar squiers go for like 100-150 with an amp (yep, im looking for one that cheap or around that price range at least) however i looked on musicians friend and a simple squier bass is like $200 without an amp. rawr.

which guitar should i get and which amp? i know nothing about bass.

the squier series isnt too bad for basses despite how it is for guitar. I played a few squiers and i dont mind them, they should do for your purposes fairly well.

Get an ibanez, they have some really good basses in what would be the US$150-200 price range. Yes, you do have to pay that much for something that wont break as soon as you use it. Live with it. and another couple of hundred for an amp, maybe 300.

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.

^ see his budget.

The best I can find new near that range is this combo:

http://www.rondomusic.com/pjbsc.html (J-bass)

http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Rocktron-Rampage-BASS-10-1x6.5-Bass-Combo-Amp?sku=500556 (rocktron amp)

As you can see, that won't get you a lot as far as amps go. I suggest getting your stuff used. Honestly, it's the only way you're going to get any sort of decent rig with your budget.
Nope, no sig here.
