Seriously, I must have a rant about capos.

I mean what IS the point in capos for most songs? They're annoying when you're improvising a bassline to the guitar chords and you have to sit and work out what on earth you're playing.

They're also annoying for the fact most worship songs use them.

I HATE CAPOS!

What's wrong with capos?

Leave it out.

They make it easier to play chords in other keys, such as G or C, which are easier for some people to sing over.

that is what i use them for. True its not the best thing, but it works well for the purpose.

They give you different open chords. If you're struggling improvising a bass line over a guitar with a capo, you mustn't be that good of a bassist

Yeah, and in my band our bandleader is fond of suprise capo-ing.....

People like using open chords and people are also better at singing in some keys than others. So if you want to play open chords in Bb major, you use a capo. And can't you just use a capo with your bass?

Ah right. Surprising capo-ing makes a little more sense as I always thought you were a respected bassist here

Tell him to warn you? Create your own bass capo? Or something?

One problem- I use cello tuning, tuned in fourths....
#15
because I'm too lazy to bother with barre chords when a song is out of my vocal range

Guitars and basses are tuned in fourths. Cellos are tuned in fifths.

I must be thinking of a koto...

Anyway, the odd tuning of my bass means actually capo'ing my bass is pointless.

Capo'ing your bass preserves your tuning intervals, it just shoves it up to another key.
You'll still be in fourths, or whatever you tune to.

But whatever works for you, I guess. There are only so many frets your guitarist can clamp his capo at...be ready at all times

You try playing a barred G at the 5th fret.

Now you know why capos are useful.

Seen as I play the barest amount of (rhythm) guitar, I'm taking your word for it.

it gives you new voicings ..... a new open position...

i love it for fingerpicking

This is why I find it very helpful to think not in terms of chords bu in terms of intervals, this problem disappears.

Lol worship songs. My aunt asked me to play drums at church. I said I'll do it, simply for the fact that somebody from a record company may need a spiritual clensing.

I am beginning to like capos...

I'm pretty sure they have bass capos too. That might make being on worship team easier.

or maybe they don't have them... well I'm sure you could just get a nice durable one that would fit over a 4 string bass.
I can honestly say I have really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like.

They are actually quite useful. I think they are most common in Bluegrass thought...not worship songs.

Maybe you could talk to the guitarist/s about your problem with them. That or learn the theory (scale intervals and each fret's note, up to the 5th or wev). I don't think I was very helpful, but it's what I was thinking the issue may be.
