hay guys ive been playin guitar for about a year now so i have started to play some van halen riffs and this thing always comes up its called a pinch harmonic, how do you do/make this

Yep, YouTube is a great tool for learning how to do things visually. There are a lot of videos on the topic of pinch harmonics and they are pretty good. The one given by loner123 above is a great one on it.

easiest way i found is to place your finger right above the fret bar, and just barily touch the string, but you can only get good harmonics on certian frets, as far as i've found.

I believe that would be a natural harmonic, but if you are looking for a pinch harmonic you lightly touch the string while strumming with the thumb of your strumming hand.

It takes some practice, but you will get it.
