Hey

On the 3rd of January 2009, we have a gig.
Should I change my guitar strings one week before or at the day of the gig?

One week before would be best, I think, or at least a few days. Otherwise you might have problems tuning it.

Give it at least a couple of days to allow the strings to settle in, otherwise you'll be tuning and retuning right up to and possibly during your gig...

Yes yes yes. Change it today unless you're using Ernie Ball strings.

I'm using Ernie Ball Strings

BTW: Are Super Slinky better for the sound than Regular Slinky?

Ernie's suck get rotosound. But yeah before although a week might be a bit premature.

UG Mods really have no sense of humour.....

What do you mean with rotosound??
I don't think that Ernie's suck. I tried D'Addario but they don't last so long...

They're just a lighter gauge. If anything, tone is worse on thinner strings...

And strings are personal preference. Most manufacturers will make decent strings...

And why wait a week? 3 days at the most for that fresh sound

Rotosound are british strings and feel smoother than ernies they bend fine and rotos have lasted me 6 months where as ernies lasted me 1 month and felt totally dry. Rotosounds are cheaper too.

I highly reccoment you don't use Ernie Balls. They seem to break too fast for me IMO. In this case, I'd say a day before just to break in the strings. (Hopefully not literally)

I say put em on like 2 days before to they can streach. Rember stretch them before you put them on. Then when there on tune and play for a while so they get worn in.

Q: How do you get a guitar player to play softer?
A: Give him some printed music
