Subtle nuances aren't generally appreciable by those who have no frame of reference for comparison (usually beginners) or those who have limited exposure to a wide variety of equipment and methods of routing their signal, as they would be- by those who've gained the experience to appreciate those subtle nuances.

I see that many times beginners, have no idea what they're after, so the sampler platter a multi-fx unit offers can be a nice introduction route. Tube vs SS is similar in that depending on what someone is aiming for may make the comparison irrelevant, OR it will make or break the result, however; knowing what you're after AND what it takes to achieve that-- is something that illustrates PERFECTLY, that there is NO substitute for experience.
