Subtle nuances aren't generally appreciable by those who have no frame of reference for comparison (usually beginners) or those who have limited exposure to a wide variety of equipment and methods of routing their signal, as they would be- by those who've gained the experience to appreciate those subtle nuances.

I see that many times beginners, have no idea what they're after, so the sampler platter a multi-fx unit offers can be a nice introduction route.
