I was thinkin about writing a bluesy solo to go over Jason Mraz's "i'm yours".

Now wether its a solo or just little fills doesn't matter, but how do i find the key of the song? I'm music theory retarted so i don't even know where to start to write something like this.
I was thinking find the key and write it in the major scale of that key possibly?

Any help is appreciated, and if I'm extremely wrong go ahead and tell me so i dont waste my time.

Bash me not the song, of course.

Sounds good. I usually just do it in my head first then try to play it on guitar.

This isn't something you can just learn in one sitting. You need to learn theory. The Crusades articles are pretty good on this site.

Also, just listen and see what chord the song resolves too. Chances are for a simple song like that it ends on the tonic.

Capo on 4th.

Wiggle your fingers around 7th/9th fret, and you've got yourself an instant "I'm Yours" solo.

You don't have to use Major. You can use relative Minor or Pentatonic if you are really having that much trouble. But I rarely use Ionian just because I find it too simple.

Tom morello much?

Oh come on, who DOESN'T think of Rage Against The Machine when the note F# is mentioned?
