Ronald Jenkees

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giAzopSy-g0&feature=channel

I've known about this guy for over a year now, and just recently got back into him.

And, I swear, he's probably THE most unlikely person I would ever think to be in the techno/instrumental hip hop/electronic genre.

Don't get me wrong, he's fantastic, I LOOOOOOOVE his style and his tracks, and he just seems like an amazing guy, but the sheer fact that he sounds like he's from the backwoods of Mississippi, has glasses the size of George Burns', and (looks to be) uber shy is just befuddling.

Especially in that video. He comes across all shy, and kind of modest, and then he sits at the keyboard, and just the sound is just ripped from the speakers.

It's marvelous.

Billy Mays. Can't talk in a normal voice and sounds like his pants are a bit too tight but he still sells stuff.

The Hold Steady.

You wouldn't expect such a nerdy looking band to write so many songs about drinking, getting high and partying. Not to mention do it quite well.

I have a feeling that Ronald Jenkees just dresses and acts like that as a stage persona. He makes some ****ing awesome music though.

"Stage persona"?

I don't even know if the even leaves his house.

Not dissing him or anything, but I've never heard him mention shows, or playing at a party or something.

All of his videos are from his room, as well.

But, agreed, insanely great stuff. I can't wait until his next album.

Holy ass, that's amazing.

I wanna blaze and then jam out with this guy. That would probably be the most awesome experience of my life.

How is that even remotely relevant?

I don't think I fit my type of music (death and black metal)...I mean cmon. A spanish dude, with short slicked back hair, wearing baby blue shirts, driving an old white van, listening to Necrophagist? Haha That was what the image was, a year ago
#17
I like it, but I'm just curious. What makes it experimental? It sounds pretty straightforward to me. Is it the timbre of the instruments? Even then, he's got kinda a mainstream trance tone going.

Autism is linked to savantism and also leads to some rather extreme social awkwardness, it would perfectly explain the talent and shyness and, moreover, provide a link between the two.

I seem to be the only one who is unimpressed?

Incredible talent, but the music sounds like **** to me. I'm probably wrong, but its my opinion

To make this post relevant; I don't act like a rugby player. People say I'm sweet and gentle and I always avoid fights etc

#24
A lot of metal heads fit into that category. Shy, fat geeks who look ridiculous with their long hair and dark clothes. I don't have a problem with it - it's all about the music. I just find it funny because metal is such an aggressive genre of music.

Fallen...

I swear to god, yesterday, my friend who looks almost identical to you, just stumbled onto this guy, and was talking about this exact same thing.

When he talks all I can think is "This man is the love child of George W Bush and Elton John"

That was pretty awesome though.

Perhaps my interstellar twin has skipped over to this universe in our most recent pan-dimensional shift, and we both reclaimed our love for the Jenkees at the same time.

Either way,

Also, since this is becoming one massive Ronald thread, I'll post another person, to keep things moving.

U2

Now, sure, they've changed a little as they've aged, but, come on. Look at them. If you were walking down the street, and you saw that lot, would "International rock superstars!" REALLY cross your mind at any point in time?

And, not only that, if you DID see them with their instruments, but they hadn't played anything yet, would you REALLY think "Beautiful Day" would be the style of song they played?

I know it wouldn't be the exact style I envisioned.

What do you think this dude does for a living? No, he's not a sports announcer, he's a singer. And, he's a tenor. Does he look like a tenor? Hell naw.

Freddie Mercury doesn't look like a singer, frankly, not many people do. But, dammit can he ever belt out those lyrics.

Axl Rose' speaking voice.

same goes for kirk hammett, he sounds like a 13 year old boy

EDIT: almost forgot, i raised an eyebrow myself when i found out that the singer from the animals has a like a 3 octave vocal range or soemthing stupid like that.

Bobby McFerrn has a 5 octave range, but he's black so he can pull it off.
