The only pedal i really have any settings for is the MI Audio crunchbox, although these settings will work for pretty much any mid-gain overdrive.

Gain: 1-2, Tone: 8, Level: 6 (This setting is great for boosting solos)

Gain: 9, Tone: 4-5, Level: 6 (This is good for hard rock)

Gain: 3-4, Tone: 8, Level: 6 (AC/DC type cruncy blues-rock type stuff)

Gain: 5-6, Tone: 6, Level: 6 (Good for solos)

You can play metal with lots of mids.

Gain: 7
Treble: 2
Mids: 7
Bass: 4
Reverb: 2

I can get some pretty modern thrash tone with those settings on my DSL.

nah, classic rock mainly

my amp could do clean and it could do brootalz but it lacked the signature tube light crunch. the SD-1 simulated that really well. thats what its designed for

it's modded now and in front of my tube amp it's shockingly good

Out of those choices? Marshall jackhammer. Havn't tried the Ibanez

Stay the flying f*ck away from the metalzone.

Enjoy your underage drinking.

I'm messing around with this on my cube 20x now, though, so my settings could change within the hour.

I feel your pain though...this is the first time a band i really like (read: loooove) is coming to play here. Besides Maiden. But i really REALLY prefer Opeth.

I had a ****ing coronary when i found out they were coming to India.

Same.

There was one each of the GH50L and the GH100L heads in a music store near my place, with the giant Laney cabs, and i REALLY wanted to try them, but both had blown tubes.
Of all the bad luck!

Also, i always assumed they used the Amp distortion till i found out all he did was keep the gain REALLY low and run a GT (8 i believe) through it.
#25
ah that sucks!
And yeah i was really surprised when i found they use a multi-effects for dist, such a great solo and rhythm tone.

since when did opeth have good tone? theyr probably my favorite band along with meshuggah right now, but their tone always sounded kind of fizzy to me. then again though, i only have ghost reveries, so idk if their tone's changed or whatnot.

anyways, here are the two main distortion presets i use for metal rythm on the pod xt:

modern high gain model: drive 38% bass 74, mids 89, treble 76, presence 83
4 x12 V30's british cabinet miced with 57 off axis. red comp: sustain:46 , level 85

dual treadplate model: drive 46, bass 72, mid 46, treble 92, presence 84
screamer model: drive 0, gain 68, tone 72 4x12 treadplate cab miced with 421 dynamic
periphery/bulb!

gear:
Ibanez RG7321 w/ D-sonic in bridge

Peavey 5150 mk ii & b52 4x12 cab

line 6 podxt for recording

Head and Cab for $130? You don't need a head and cabinet, you need a psychological examination.

Whatever amp I'm playing, I go on OD channel with gains at about half way, channel vol on 10, mids at 10, treble at 10, bass at 10, revrb at about 3. Sometimes I turn the mids and teeble down a little bit depending on what room I'm in but this sounds mint in the room that I practise in and very bluesy. Oh yeah and either neck and middle or bridge and middle pups on my strat, with the tone on the middle turned all the way down.

The basis of my tone is nothing more than a Soldano Decatone and a Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive up front. Everything else is there just to make things interesting, but I could completely drop the rest of the rig and get away with just those two (and a cab) if I needed to.

On the Decatone:

Clean Gain: 7 (bright switch on)
Crunch Gain: 6 (bright switch on)
Overdrive Gain: 4 (bright switch off)
Bass: 7
Mids: 8
Treble: 9
Clean Volume: 5
Crunch Volume: 6.5
Overdrive Volume: 4.5
Presence: 6
Depth: 11
Master: depends on who (if anyone) I'm playing with

On the Sparkle Drive:

Gain: 0
Tone: 4
Clean: 3
Level: 10
ESP LTD EC-256 and a Fender Deluxe VM
