so, as a birthday and christmas gidft, i got $700 to spend on whatever i want. i currently have a Fender Strat, which i love and barely consider trading it. and im happy with my sound as it is now. so what would be the most intelligent way of spending this money? pedals? pedalboard? a whole new instrument? a new guitar?

anyway, thanks

Well, what amp do you have? And what pedals have you got? Because if you don't need to spend it on gear save it until you need it.
#3
yeah, thats what i figured...i have a Pod Studio which i play through a small Epiphone Amp but i also have a Crate FW15R. i can get an ok tone out of the Crate and a good tone out of the Pod. ifi were to upgrade my amp, it would have to be something extremely small and light. i currently have no pedals

classic/hard rock and blues mostly...i play lots of guitar hero stuff so there isnt really just two styles...a bit of punk, alternative rock and indie...
#7
are you playing with a band or gigging?

nope, this is strictly home practice and the occasional dram with friends (no drums involved)

5W blackheart is right up your street

+1

Possibly with an OD pedal to boost it for hard rock.

I'll third the blackheart for what you are doing. And like Adam said, a decent OD pedal would be in order for some gain.

the guy has metallica as his icon, why are you recommending a 5 watt tube amp? TS, what bands' sound are you aiming for?

EDIT: unless fast channel switching is a necessity, this would seem like a good option for you http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Krank-Krank-Rev-Jr.-Standard-Half-Stack-BlackBlack?sku=501204

Head and Cab for $130? You don't need a head and cabinet, you need a psychological examination.

Either the Blackheart or a Roland 60 would be good for you, you dont need to put $700 into something that you dont necessarily, just something that will work for you .

I'd personally take the Blackheart and then put an OD pedal in front of it, but I'd try out both amps and any others you may be interested in before you make a decision.
Got a question about Baritone guitars? Feel free to PM me.

Thanks to UG, I converted from Metalcore to some "real" Metal.

Playing at low volumes and not with a drummer? Even the 5 watt Bheart would hold it's own as long as the drummer isn't smashing through the skins should he ever pair up with one. Granted cleans would be non existent. But the breakup would be perfect for classic rock and blues.
