Oh, just thought of another good RATM song:

No Shelter

It's got an excellent bass riff, where it sounds like Timmy's rocking a tremolo or something. It's great. And funky as hell. >:3

Freaky Styley, BSSM by Red Hot Chili Peppers are pretty sweet. Look up Apache Rose Peacock and If you Have to Ask by them.
Also James Brown (I believe he is the godfather of Funk?) Songs be like Sex Machine and Gonna Have a Funky Good Time.

Those songs are in Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Listen to the whole album if you like funky songs. Apache Rose Peacock is acctually preatty easy to play. And fun...
That album is really awsome if your into that kind of funk (Modern Funk as I think someone as said...).

obviously, old chili peppers (and new chili peppers too!) is good accessible funk

if you can learn by ear, you could always play some Parliament Funkadelic, Sly & The Family Stone, Kool & The Gang, James Brown, Earth Wind and Fire, Isley Brothers, Tower of Power, Ohio Players, etc etc etc

and if you want some crazy guitar for funk, listen to prince
