So yeah, i just thought i'd make a thread about the THING that is J-pop.
it's swarmed the place where i live, and i just want to know

WHATS THE BIG DEAL ABOUT IT?

the people arent overly talented.
its the same mass produced crap that you hear over in UK but the only difference is they speak Japanese.
and its dire, it makes me wanna turn emo.

what do you lot think?
#2
I love it.
They are about ten times as talented as britney spears. you know why? They actually write their own material, instruments and all. sure it isn't as technical as necrophagist, but still, I find it very enjoyable.

its fun music and indie music isnt bad either so poo on you
music is supposed to be a good time

Then yes, I have all four.

I have a friend who's OBSESSED with J Pop or anything to do with Japanese culture. And she keeps trying to make me listen to that stuff. I find it a little annoying to be honest.

I'm not extensively knowledgeable in the subject but I'll try.

The Seatbelts:

They are fairly famous because they did the soundtrack to the Anime "Cowboy Bebop."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Seatbelts

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6jCJZEFIto - Song is called "Tank!" it's also fairly well known because it was the opening to the Anime, but the whole Cowboy Bebop Soundtrack is good and is worth downloading.

SOIL&"PIMP" Sessions:

"Energetic Japanese club jazz band that have started to receive international recognition"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soil_and_Pimp_Sessions

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLBivCI4uco - Song is called "Crush!" it's from their album called "Pimp of the Year" which I highly recommend.

Sleep Walker:

I could not find anything in Wikipedia about them or a video on youtube but If you have Last.fm you can look them up there and listen to a full track called "Eclipse" from their album called "Into the Sun" which Is quite good and worth downloading.

There is far more to it than that, you can go onto Last.fm (again, only if you have it) and find many similar artists to the ones above, like Jazztronik, Quasimode (who I particularly enjoy) and many others that I've yet to discover.

Anyways, I hope somebody out there got something out of this post.

EDIT: Also, here is a song I found by Quasimode on youtube,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EK2vOcrO9PY

there is a lot more stuff by them on youtube if you're interested.

Because it's got pop after the J. It's popular. :3

Pop is pop wherever. Just cause it comes from Japan don't make it any more high profile. It's just the world has a lot of weeaboos. Not so many Japanese folk will go out of their way to listen to American / English pop. :/

I suppose I'm interested in it simply because it's from Japan. I do like some J-rock and J-jazz as well. I saw this Japanese guy do a pretty good version of "Fly Me to the Moon" but can't find the video right now.

The opening was far better imo

I actually downloaded the Entire Soundtrack for that show at one point in my life (8 months ago), but now all I have left is "A Cruel Angel's Thesis" and "Decisive Battle."
