what do you guys think of meg white? in my oppinion shes a good drummer in a great band. tel me what you think

I like the white stripes.... I like her role in the White Stripes. I don't think she is all that versatile and doubt she would be able to do much outside of the White Stripes. Who knows though, and it really doesnt matter. In the context she is presented in..... she fits in just right and does a great job.

I can see you're a new user, so it's okay. But many people on UG regularly make fun of Meg White for being an extremely basic drummer, and as a drummer, i can tell you that she is indeed VERY basic. The White Stripes are great, but mainly due to Jack's guitar skills, not Meg's talent on the drums.

So anyways, no hard feelings, just giving you a heads up

happy posting

The White Stripes are a straightforward, 4/4 blues band (except for a couple of their albums) and Meg's drumming style fits in with that perfectly. I think she could be capable of much more, but she doesn't need to do all this spectacular drumming for the type of band the White Stripes are.

they are what they are. She certainly isn't the best drummer in world, but who cares? There is always someone better. I don't think her point is to be impressive from a drumming standpoint but rather to play what's appropriate from an artistic standpoint. ( and to do what comes natural to her).

Anyway, I think the White stripes are great, I wouldn't necessarily want to hear them with a different drummer.

i've seen them live. same as everyone says, she's not the finest drummer ever heard, but she's rock solid and knows her place in the band. the show was fantastic, btw, and Meg does sing that one song "in the cold cold night," and does a beautiful job of it.

Isn't there a forum on this site dedicated to Modern Rock?? Wouldn't this better belong there?

On the topic of Meg White - She can beat my drum anyday

she does have nice vocals. i never said she was the best drummer on earth, i just said she was good. and as far as her drumming goes, she could probably do a little more on them, but that wouldn't compliment and flow with the music the stripes make.
whoever another bassist is, jack is not that great on the guitar. good. but far from great. he is rated 16th according to rolling stone, but since any one that plays guitar can learn any of there songs in about 5 minutes, i dont think he should be ranked that highly. but he is great on the microphone

So due to technical difficulty he should be lower?

When it comes to actual playing, yes Jacks' guitar skills from the stripes is very simplistic. This even translates to the Raconteurs, even though he does more complicated things around them. However, his composition and phrasing, and overall aura he creates with the guitar usually is enough. Then he goes and blows your mind with good vocals and soloing and you've got a hit.

You don't have to make complicated riffs to be an amazing guitarist. Usually your composition shows what technical skills you know, like to use, and/or are familiar with.

Simply, the White Stripes are simple and well composed. That is why they are good.

If I remember correctly, she only started to learn the drums like a year before they made the band, jack put her on the drums and started to teach her some basic stuff, and that's where the band started as far as I remember.
