Whenever I try to determine if a song is in particular key, sometimes I am not sure whether it is major or its relative minor key. Sometimes the difference is obvious, but in more non-traditional sounding songs it is difficult to tell. Any help with this? Thanks.

Determine which chord is the "home" chord. Which one sounds like it has resolved. Other than that does it sound major or minor. Just listen closely.

Its the mood the song gives off,
Generally the Major Key is a more optimistic piece
And a Minor is a more depressing

Also, another tip... usually the first note of a song determines the key
that does not include the "leading note" if it has one

This is what i do. Just try and play the major chord over the whole progression and the minor chord over the whole progression. Which ever one sounds like it fits all the way through is the right one.
