Since you haven't responded, I'm judging from your name that you play metal.

If so, get the synyster custom. But, y might not like them after awhile and it kind of sucks having someone else's name on YOUR guitar. That being said, look into other Schecters like the C1, Hellraiser series. Also look at ESP/LTD 400+ series. The new Epiphone prophecy's aren't bad either. Go to a store and try various guitars out and find one you like.

...i understand it's possible to do metal on strats.

just that a guitar more geared towards metal would probably suit his needs more...

That's a drastic difference, between a strat and a syn sig.
What music do you want to play?
What's your budget?
What kind of strat are you looking at?
What kind of amp do you have?

Also, I don't really like the Syn, if you want to play metal, there's some cheaper guitars that are just as good, if not better.

Get the Schecter, unless you often play other genres, in which case a Fat Strat would be more versatile.

I just noticed your username. I assume you like metal/metalcore so i'm just going to make a few suggestions that are around the price or less than the syn sig.

Schecter Hellraiser FR- $849

This one is kind of obvious. I think it's better than the Syn custom because invaders can get muddy, and I myself believe emgs are better. Also, it is $150 cheaper than the Syn custom, for essentially the same specs.

Schecter blackjack ATX FR- $849

This one is basically the same as the hellraiser, but with blackouts instead of emgs.

Michael Kelly Hex Deluxe- $669

This is basically Michael Kelly's version of a schecter hellraiser. Trust me on this one. It's a lot cheaper, but Michael Kelly's have amazing build quality, and the specs are amazing. If it were my choice, I'd go with this one. I've tried it out and it feels and sounds amazing.

Obviously you can also go with the hardtail versions as opposed to the ones with the FR's but i posted links to ones with FR's because the syn custom has an fr.
