I am looking for a new bass, and would perfer a 2 pup model. I was looking at the Fender with pbass and jbass pups.

My question is, if you had about $700 to blow on a 2 pup bass, which one would you get?

I play mostly rock, some metal.

I own one. didn't like it at first cuz of tone, which is odd because I love the tone now. now it's my main bass again. The neck is really nice. It's balanced well. It has a very clear defined tone. no muddiness at all. and it has a three band eq.

Do not get the thunderbird. It's muddy sounding and if you let go of the neck the headstock could plummet to the floor.

thunderbird is neck heavy, REALLY neck heavy. get a Fender J-Bass. It can do anything.

The J bass can serve metal fine, however if you want to play metal easier (depending on the 'heaviness') pick up a fiver.

Schecter stiletto studio 5, or four would do you very well. Good guitars for around 500-700.

Also, perhaps check out some Ibanez's. BTB's, ATK's, etc.

I don't know how much things are in dollars but I'm a sucker for anything HS. Warwick Jazzman, MM Stingray, the two pickup Ibanez ATK models etc.
#22
Ibanez SR500
Ibanez ATK750

Those are my favourites in that price range, anyway.
The ATK would probably be better for rock and metal, they have a more agressive tone than the SR.

What are you doing with the electronics on that? controls for each individual pup?

Nah. Each pickup is wired into a group of four, and then into the EQ + Blend.

It's fine, as soon as I can get into it again

Dammit, I was hoping your build was going to have a gazillion knobs

Well, I will be playing it...

Nah, only 4 knobs. Kinda sucks, but i could do something spectacular involving levels for each pickup further down the line

I was looking into the fender pbass special.

Now I think I'm going to check out the jbass.

And as far as Schecters, Aren't they pretty body heavy?

2 for the 18V preamp. The pickups themselves are passive.

Im disappointed if hes not going to try hard enough he may aswell give up, when you make a bass that contains its own 1800 watt passive amplifier we will be inpressed.

Chris should use dual EQ's.

the win would be off the hizzy.

How can something passive have a power rating? You can't just make power come out of nowhere.

Why sayys, , right then a 1200watt amp going through a 2 inch speaker providing the exact same sound response etc etc as a 8x10, powered by 18v, in a bass, built by nutter.

If it's an Ampeg 810, that shouldn't be too hard.

I play a squier pbass now. And I hate the tone I get out of the pickups. Should I really not go off that sound cause its well, a squier?
