Question. I don't know if anyone here is afflicted with this, but I figured I would ask. I have tendonitis in my right wrist(i'm right handed). I really want to get into guitar, take lessons and stuff. But I don't want to risk injuring my wrist more than it already is. So I was wondering if anyone else has this and can give some insight/advice.

To give some info. It mostly hurts while using a mouse, and it's the side to side motion that does it. So I don't know how similar thats gonna be to a guitar.

if using a mouse gives you pain, playing guitar will be like getting your wrists cut off. the side to side motion of using a mouse is almost identical as strumming a guitar, so i would recommend you to ask a doctor or something before playing

Yeah I'd talk to a Doctor about that. I have slight tendinitis in my fretting hand. I know someone who is a doctor, and they said I developed it from playing guitar. This was when I started playing seriously, and tried to start using my pinky more often so that I could move faster. ANYWAY, I ended up getting tendinitis and it was very painful if I pushed it just right. But I took a small break and started using it again and now I'm fine.

I had tendonitis a few years ago when I was a basket weaver. Don't laugh it was good money. The only thing that helped me was doing HEAVY grip and forearm work. My tendonitis was from repetitive motion, so I guess strength training was the polar opposite of repetitive motion(endurance). Anyways, so I don't get sued, you should see a doctor and consult them first. Most people tell you that you need to rest it and doing heavy weightlifting goes against their logic, but that's what worked for me. Good luck!

Ya, I've been to a doctor and a chiropractor and they were both gave little insight on anything (I didn't ask them about guitar though). I was thinking of trying to get into a specialist or something, but for now I would I was just going to ask you guys to see if anyone had any experience with this.

StratSlinger, what kind of exercise did you do? Could you give some examples out of curiosity. Also was your tendonitis the same as mine, where the side to side motion of the wrist made it hurt?
