Man, if you're at the stage when you want to start playing stuff like that, you really, really need some new gear. You'll need a pedal with a half decent distortion sound, I'd recommend this...
http://www.hartnollguitars.co.uk/products.asp?id=1694

And you also need a new guitar, something that can humbuck. You really can't play metal music on a squier guitar with no humbuckers, simple as. Well, you can, but it would sound **** in my experience. And that depends on how much you can spend. If you haven't got much you should go for an Ibanez GRG170DX or something.

thanks a lot guys . and my amp has decent distortion and effects but thanks for the suggestion . that's what i want an ibanez . always liked them . i kind a had a hunch i needed humbuckers .

you definately need a guitar with humbuckers, when you could get a nicer amp too, but the cube will do you just fine for now.

check out the settings thread at the top of the guitar gear and accesories forum.

cube's are great amps, I almost bought one, till my dad offered to help me buy a tube amp.

Im not really so sure what model, but ibanez seems to be your best bet in this range.

The cube will do fine for now, it's just that single coils don't do metal well, especially not rhythm parts; if maybe you're thinking, am I palm-muting wrong? No, that's the single coils

A low low low end Ibanez RG would get you started in that direction, or a low end Dean (Z? Baby Dean even?). For $250, I say another guitar, not another amp. In that price range the difference in amp isn't going to be as great as the difference with hi-gain humbuckers.

The microcube even has a 'metal' setting.

personally id stay away from the bc rich, too pointy for my tastes and i dont really like the sound either. seems you found a good list, make sure you look these up on musicians friend, guitar center, or a site like that to make sure your not getting ripped off/paying more than what its worth.

Would be my pick. EMGs would do you muchos good for metalcore and onwards. (And an EMG guitar at that price? Wow)

The Dean is worth it almost for the pickup's alone, get that for now and then keep the pickups when you upgrade.

i have to agree, since you want to play metal get the dean with the emgs, good deal. If you bought the pickups seperate you would be paying close to the price for the guitar.

makes it an even better deal

the guitar itself runs about $110. I played one before, considering it costs that much its good for what you pay. Im sure the emgs make it a lot better.

its not the greatest guitar, but considering its about 110 dollars and it has 200 dollar pickups in it you are making a good buy getting the dean with emgs. like someone said above, when you upgrade again in the future, if you find yourself not too fond of the guitar, you could always take out the pickups and put them in a new guitar.

i would definately spend 180 for that guitar, even though i dont play a lot of metal.
