This seems like the best place to ask.

Does anyone know where I can find a guide (preferably online) so I can learn to tell, just by looking, which year certain Fenders were made, and does anyone have a similar guide relating to Gibsons (year made, and model type [standard, custom, etc.]).

At the moment, the extent of my skill is telling if a Fender strat was made in the '70s or not. Not a lot, is it?

I'd like to have such a skill. Would be fun, and interesting.

So, yeah. Thanks.

Google the "guitar dater project". You'll need a serial no though to find the answers

Not serial numbers.
I just want to be able to look at a guitar and see that it's a '58 Les Paul standard, or a Strat made in xx year, by looking at the details (bridge, headstock, pickups, colour/finish, etc.).

It's a skill that would be interesting to have.
I could then see photos, or videos, and ID the guitar by sight.

Just wanted to see what you guys might have used yourself.
